About

| “It gave me an insight into all the opportunities available at UWA, some of which I had not heard of or even considered”.
The Learning Links programme provides an infinite variety of new learning experiences for students and staff at our partner schools to engage with the best minds at UWA. High school students are invited to participate in a variety of programmes which may include a visit to the campus, collaborate in a research programme or attend special lectures. During school visits to UWA, students meet with university students to hear first hand about life on campus including information on the array of courses offered at UWA and support services available. In addition, students from the partner schools have been involved with special projects such as viticulture at Shenton Park or the Powerful Plants programme conducting research under the guidance of leading plant scientists. Many students have also had the privilege of meeting Nobel Laureates Professor Barry Marshall and Emeritus Professor Robin Warren. Teachers from the Learning Links schools can participate in SPICE, a joint professional development programme between UWA and the WA Department of Education and Training, designed to introduce creative ways to teach science in local secondary schools. Our highlights page profiles some of the events that students and staff from the Learning Links schools have been participated in. Please refer to our contacts page if you are from one of the partner schools and interested in having an activity or visit organised. UWA staff who would like to be involved, can contact Dr Judy Skene (judy.skene@uwa.edu.au), the Learning Links Co-ordinator who can help put you in touch with the schools. "All reports back from both teachers and students were very positive. Apparently the bus trip back was full of great discussion about the topics and presenters". |
