Critical Thinking Corner: Lectopia

Why use Lectopia?

Lectopia is an online learning tool developed by the University of Western Australia to give you remote access to lectures and lecture materials including PowerPoint presentations. This means if you miss a lecture you can access it via the Lectopia link on WebCT. It does not mean that there is no point in going to lectures! Lectopia offers flexible learning for students with timetable clashes but is essentially a useful revision tool.

4 Steps to Lectopia

Interacting with lectures on Lectopia requires clear knowledge of your purpose and can be enhanced with good critical thinking skills. The most important things you can do to enhance your efficiency and analytical skills when using Lectopia include:

  1. Identify your preferred learning style
  2. Prepare some questions before you access the lecture
  3. Make useful notes while streaming the lecture
  4. Do something with your notes - plan for tutorials and file for exams!
