ResearchThe STUDYSmarter team is actively involved in a range of research areas and frequently attend conferences and publish papers. A list of our recent publications can be found on the publications list. ProjectsThe team is currently working on a range of projects in collaboration with staff across the University. These projects include: Online Student Journey ProjectThe Online Student Journey project applies Web 2.0 tools within Student Services, providing staff within the division with training in the use of emerging technologies. The project will enable staff to connect with tech-savvy students in online environments and generate a toolbox of interactive applications that scaffold engagement beyond the classroom. Flexible delivery of Study Skills materialsSTUDYSmarter has recently begun work on developing online resources to foster effective learning and to enhance the student experience in a range of areas. Resources will include video, podcasts and use of the Facebook discussion boards. Find out more on the on-line resources page. PEERSThis project began by investigating incoming international student Perceptions and Expectations of English Requirements and Support (PEERS) at UWA. Following this investigation, key recommendations have been developed and are in the process of being implemented. You can find out more on the PEERS project page. English language and academic communication unitsSTUDYSmarter has been working for the UWA Centre for English Language Teaching to develop two first-year accredited units in English language and academic communication for Study Abroad and Student Exchange students. These units have been approved by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, with the first unit (HUMA1101) piloted in Semester 2, 2009 and both units running in 2010. An overview of the first unit is available here. Online Writing modulesThe team is in the process of developing online writing modules for all UWA Faculties. These modules will be hosted on the STUDYSmarter website and can be used as stand-alone resources or to complement face-to-face delivery. Critical Thinking CornerThe Critical Thinking Corner is a dedicated section of the STUDYSmarter website designed to assist students to use Lectopia and WebCT effectively to support their studies. It also provides students with tips for studying online, with a particular focus on critical thinking, reading and note-taking skills. It is supplemented by a workshop entitled 'How to think critically online' and relevant Survival Guides. |
