Faculty of AHSS

Arts-IRIS project

IRIS (Introductory Research and Information Skills) was trialled in second Semester 2005 and extended across the Faculty in 2006.  An evaluation of the initial trial of IRIS was conducted by Dr Robyn Mayes in collaboration with staff from the Library and the Faculty of AHSS.  A series of focus groups were held and recommendations generated in a report to the Faculty.

Student Employment Readiness Project (SERP)

This project (funded by a CEQ Scheme Grant) aimed to encourage the development of employability in UWA AHSS students, and in turn to strengthen student satisfaction overall and in particular in relation to generic skills.  Dr Robyn Mayes held focus grops with students and academic staff from the Faculty of AHSS in order to identify ways of better preparing AHSS for employment.

T&L Tuesdays - Lecture Series

This lecture series was launched in Semester 1 2008, and is the joint initiative of Dr Nicole Crawford (Transition and Student Experience Co-ordinator, FAHSS) and Dr Sophie Sunderland (STUDYSmarter). A series of three lectures designed to enhance Arts students' essay writing, critical analytical and study skills was presented to Arts faculty students. The lectures are accessible as podcasts on the STUDYSmarter website. In Semester 2, the lecture series was retitled "T&L Tuesdays," and expanded to include two lectures for tutors. The first lecture focused on critical pedagogy; the second discussed effective feedback strategies. The lecture series has been repeated during 2009, with lectures podcast on the Faculty of Arts StudentNet.
