Business School

First Year Economics

First Year economics students are offered sessions on Maximising Learning in Lectures, Tutorials and Workshops and Labs, Techniques for Managing Tasks and Time, Effective Academic Writing and Ethical Scholarship and Strategic Exam Preparation as part of their first few weeks studying Economics.  This program was developed for this First Year cohort following a request from Michael Sutherland, the Business School's First Year Coordinator.  In 2008, any face-to-face sessions will be complemented by an online resource on writing skills developed by LLRS specifically for the Business School

Graduate Certificate of Business Administration

Students receive training in a range of skills aimed at providing effective ways of learning. The first session (Returning to Learning) is offered at Orientation with 3 other sessions on Academic Writing, Reading, Referencing & Critical Thinking and Exam Strategies. Sessions are designed and delivered by Dr Lisa Cluett in consultation with Program Director Kaye Macpherson-Smith.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Students enrolled in the MBA program through the Graduate School of Management are invited to attend 3 sessions per Trimester. The first session (Studying for an MBA) is offered during the Orientation Saturday with one follow-up session on Academic Writing and another on Critical Thinking and Referencing.  These sessions are delivered by the team following an invitation from Program Director Barb Gordon-Wood.

Executive MBA

The EMBA students enrolled at the Graduate School of Management are offered sessions as part of their orientation weekend. Topics such as active learning, effective reading and critical thinking are covered. These sessions are delivered by Dr Lisa Cluett and designed in consulation with Program Director Prof. Gary Stockport.

Postgraduate coursework Business programs

Students enrolled in postgraduate degrees by coursework across the Business School (for example in HR, IR, Information Management, marketing etc) are offered an Orientation to Study session as well as workshops on writing and referencing.  Access workshop slides and audio files here.
