Making AppointmentsYou can make a Counselling appointment by calling the reception desk on 6488 2423 or visiting the Support Centre reception area, located on the 2nd floor of the Guild Village (next to the Medical Centre), during office hours. We are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, except for University recognised Public Holidays. Please arrive five minutes before your appointment to complete some background information. You will also be given information about the Service and issues related to confidentiality. Please note: Demand for counselling is high toward the examination period. We try to see all students as quickly as possible. However there is usually a one-two week wait period for appointments. If you think your situation is urgent please advise staff when booking. A counsellor can call to assess your situation usually within 24 hours. If your situation is urgent there are several community based services able to provide help. Please see the Emergency Contacts page for services. Appointment informationThe Counselling and Psychological Service provides a short term intervention service for issues of a personal or academic nature that can generally be dealt with in six sessions or less. Further sessions may be available if the counsellor determines the clinical issues can be addressed in this setting, or you can be referred to a longer term service where appropriate. First appointments are 20 minutes in length to assess your situation and discuss with you the most appropriate course of action. Individual appointments run for 50 minutes, finishing 10 minutes before the hour (in keeping with the University schedule). Cancelling and reschedulingPlease advise the Service (6488 2423) if you are unable to attend an appointment. Notification of your cancellation means someone else in need may get an earlier appointment. If you are late for your appointment, the counsellor may need to reschedule it to a later date. |
