UWA Childcare Centre

About Us

In accordance with the Children and Community Services (Outside School Hours Care) Regulations 2006 the staff to child ratios, are strictly adhered to at the Centre. These ratios are:

  • After School Care 1:13
  • Vacation Care:
    • In-house/Excursions/Pools 1:10
    • Medium-High risk activities 1:5
    • Beach activities 1:5

Staff will position themselves where they can see all the children under their supervision, listen carefully to what is happening and know the children individually, so they can anticipate their needs. Staff will join in the children’s play and encourage them to try new experiences.

The current Supervising Officer and Director is Connie Van Rooyen, who is responsible for the day to day supervision and control of the service.
All permanent staff maintain current Senior First Aid and Aquatic Rescue Certificates and hold the appropriate relevant qualifications. Staff members participate in regular staff/planning meetings and throughout the year attend in-service training sessions to further their development and knowledge of outside school hours care issues. During the year, students perform work experience and practicum’s for relevant child care courses and volunteers may assist from time to time. Our commitment to continuity is given by a policy of employing permanent part-time staff and by maintaining a current list of skilled casual relief workers.
