Philosophy

At U.W.A. Child Care Centre, management and staff aim to provide high quality care and enriching learning experiences for all children, in partnership with their families, and in accordance with Government regulations and National Child Care Accreditation Council Guidelines.

At our Centre, we endeavour to become an extension of the family’s home, in which:

  • The happiness and well-being of every child is our first priority
  • We understand that every child has the intrinsic right to feel special and to be shown genuine warmth and affection
  • We recognize the importance of providing a safe and hygienic environment, and of catering to each child’s individual needs for healthy nutritious meals, rest and comfort
  • We believe that children learn through play, and that childhood should be a time filled with fun, wonder and exploration
  • We embrace diversity, fostering an inclusive and respectful setting for all children, families and staff
  • We actively seek and value parent input with regard to every child’s individual needs, cultural background, development and issues pertaining to the running of the service
Our Curriculum is inspired and guided by the unique interests, strengths & actions of all children, as well as by the spontaneous and serendipitous events that occur every day. Out of this arise the foundations for play and learning experiences that stimulate and support children through their own learning journeys. Staff engage in an ongoing process of observing, analyzing, planning and evaluating to foster social, language, cognitive and physical development. We believe that by providing children with freedom of choice and offering a wide variety of opportunities, resources and interactions, we are creating and facilitating a developmentally appropriate curriculum where children will be encouraged to develop at their own pace.

At UWA Child Care Centre we recognize our staff as professional early childhood educators who are dedicated to the care of children. We draw upon each person’s knowledge, experience and unique skills, continually encouraging and supporting their professional development. We appreciate their commitment to providing a child care service of the highest standard.

Our centre is an integral part of the community that is encompassed by the University of Western Australia. By providing a quality child care service for its staff and students, we are supporting the University’s ongoing commitment to their Work and Family Policy.
