WHAT DOES THE UNITING CHAPLAIN DO? • I’m new here so I meet a lot of people at the moment – students, staff and some parents would you believe? That’s pretty nice. • I bring a spiritual perspective to the business of life - work, relationships, life-calling, putting back, reconciliation, environment, exploring religious background, or relating to God. Just ask me. • I am trying to do this without agenda and without passing judgements, but mostly I care enough to really want you to have a truly joy filled life. It is what Jesus offers, it is what I know myself, and so I will support you. • I am partly based at Nedlands Uniting Church , a few blocks away at Princess Rd and Bruce St, Nedlands, where lots of good stuff happens. I can show you if you like.
• I also have a life - away from uni. I love coffee (life’s too short for instant), music (except country and western), deserts (that’s the big dry place not the sweet thing in a bowl), movies (except horror movies), wife and children. Would you believe I have been very happily married for thirty years? Learnt a few things that DON’T work. • I love yarning with Aboriginal people and I get involved in the journey of healing for Stolen Generation people. Join me. • I take groups of anybodies out into the desert for a week’s thinking time – ask me. • I would like to change the world, save the planet and revive the church, but mostly I do a few things, take my best shot at God’s guidance, and end up getting changed myself. I am having a great life. Call me. Ian Robinson 0417 687 746 ian.robinson@uwa.edu.au | CHAPLAIN’S INVITATIONWhat was he saying? The Christian pastor who was invited to pray at Obama’s inauguration. He is the guy who wrote “40 Days of Purpose”, Rick Warren. It has benefitted a lot of people in many countries. A purpose for my life? Now there is a rich and attractive thought. Many people look like they have found theirs. Others get to their goal and find it simply does not satisfy. Some of us are at a good stage of life to be looking at that again. It is not as easy as simply wanting it. Some foundations are needed. I would like to offer to facilitate a group to read and work through the five themes in Warren’s internationally acclaimed book. I feel it is important to do so in a way and in a place that does not assume a Christian affiliation. It will be confidential and open discussion, and we will negotiate the ground-rules when we meet, so it can be a friendly and supportive space. Numbers are limited, so to be fair you are expected to attend as many sessions as possible, but a sudden work trip or urgent clash is understood, of course. Thursdays 7pm-9pm Feb 26 – April 9. Venue will be given only to registrants. A pub with a quietish room in Subiaco area. Cost: buy your own drinks and $12 for the cost of the book. Look forward to meeting you Ian Please register with ian.robinson@uwa.edu.au Questions: 0417 687 746 NOTE: This group coincides with about ten others based in and around the community of Nedlands Uniting Church. They are supporting this venture and have a range of community events around this theme during this period. However, there are no such demands upon participants in this group.
