Overview of Career Mentor Link
What are the objectives of the programme?Career Mentor Link is run by the UWA Careers Centre in conjunction with various academic faculties on campus. It is a career mentoring programme that matches industry professionals with UWA students. Career Mentor Link aims to: - Support students in developing the necessary skills to manage their career;
- Provide students with an industry perspective to enhance their academic learning, and;
- Establish mutually beneficial relationships between industry, the university and its students.
What is career mentoring?Career mentoring is one of the most successful ways of helping students link to industry, develop career management skills and prepare for the transition out of university and into the workplace. Put simply, mentoring is a one-on-one partnership between a more experienced person (the MENTOR) and someone who is less experienced (the MENTEE). Career Mentor Link encourages the student mentee to seek advice and information about their career direction and employment goals whilst the mentor shares their industry skills, experiences and insights and takes an active interest in the career transition needs of the student. The relationship is based on mutual respect, encouragement, constructive feedback, openness and a willingness to learn and share. When does the programme run?The Career Mentor Link programme runs over the academic year, from April to October. There is also the option for a mentor and mentee to be matched for up to 18 months. Further details Who can become involved?The programme is open to currently enrolled UWA students who have completed at least 1 year of study and industry professionals with a minimum of four years experience in the workplace. Students must be enrolled at UWA for the full year to participate. How do I become involved?Applications to become a Mentor are now open via this website . If you are a UWA student and would like to take part in the programme then please complete the Expression of Interest form. Additional informationRefer to: | |
